End of the Age? Israel and World Politics – Part 3 of 3

end of the age

This is part three of a three part series asking the question “Are we coming to the end of the age.”  See part one and part two.  I believe we are and I believe the sayings of Jesus and the Old Testament scriptures are full of clues that say now is the age and the season of Christ’s coming for His Church and for His return to earth.

We talked in part I about how the creation of the Jewish state of Israel was a major sign and part of God’s prophetic time clock triggering us to be watchful of the Lord’s soon and eminent coming.  In part 2 we discussed Wars and Rumors of Wars, signs in nature, signs in society, spiritual signs and technological signs of the day.

Today let’s take a closer look at the fulfilled prophesies regarding Israel and Jerusalem.

Israel and World Politics

Of all the end time signs, there are none that top the miraculous reestablishment of Israel as a homeland for the Jewish people.  For almost nineteen hundred years the Jewish people were scattered, tortured, expelled, murdered and humiliated, all simply because they were Jewish.  Instead of assimilating into the culture and ridding themselves of the persecution that is attached to their Jewish identity, they chose to endure as a people. This cohesion as a people is in my estimation supernatural, since we see no other ancient group retaining an ethnic identity like the Jews have.

Not only is this extraordinary, but it was all prophesied hundreds and even thousands of years ago and the precision of the prophesy coming true is remarkable.  Below are other fulfilled prophesies associated with the re-gathering of the Jews in Israel.

The Land Promise

God made some tremendous promises to the Israelite people. The center piece of the promises made being the gift of the land known today as Israel.  Over and over God promised to give the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob the land as an everlasting inheritance for their children.  (Gen. 12:7, Gen 13:15, Gen. 26:3, Gen 28:13, Gen. 35:12, Gen. 50:24, Ex 32:13, Lev. 26:42, I Chron. 16:17).

Removing Israel from the Land and Scattering Them Among the Nations Fulfilled

Though the promise of the land ownership was irrevocable, God put stipulations on the people to be able to live in the land. God kept warning Israel over and over that if they didn’t turn from their idolatrous ways, he was going to scatter them. This did not revoke God’s promise to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that the land was to be an everlasting inheritance to their children. We know Israel didn’t repent and we have a well documented history of them scattered to the four corners of the world. (Duet. 28:64, Lev 26:33, Hosea 3:4-5, Hosea 6:1, II Kings 17:6, II Kings 25:21

A Promise that their Land would Become Desolate is Fulfilled

The prophet Zachariah prophesied for God and said, I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations, where they were strangers. The land they left behind them was so desolate that no one traveled through it. This is how they made the pleasant land desolate.'” (Zach 7:14).

The land of Israel was a barely habitable desert land prior to Jews coming back to the land in large numbers in the late 1800 and early 1900’s. In 1800 only about 275,000 people lived in the entire land as opposed to over 3 million during the first century.

A prophesy that the Jews would Begin to Buy Back the Land was Fulfilled

The Jews did begin their migration back to Israel in the late 1800 and early 1900’s and they did begin to buy back the land of Israel (Jeremiah 32:44).

A Prophesy that Israel would Become a Possession of the Nations Fulfilled

Israel was essentially a possession of the nations under the League of Nations who mandated that Palestine was to be governed by Great Britain. Great Britain did govern them under the mandate from 1920 till 1948 when the state of Israel was established.  (Ezek 36:3).

The Reestablishment of Israel as a Nation is Fulfilled

The prophet Ezekiel speaking for the Lord said he will take the Israelites out of the nations and gather into their own land and will make them one land in Israel (Ezekiel 37:21-22).

The Nation of Israel would be Reborn in a Single Day is Fulfilled.

The nation of Israel was reborn in a single day in 1948 with their leader Ben Gurion signing the Israel declaration of Independence (Isa. 66:7-8).

A Promise to Re-gather the Jews to Israel is Fulfilled

Almost as many times as God warned the Jews that He would scatter them if they didn’t change, He told of how He would one day re-gather them (Isa. 11:11-12, Ezek. 11:17, Jer. 23:3) Today we see over eight million Jews returned to Israel from the four corners of the earth.

The Order of their Return to Israel Fulfilled

To me this is one of the most fascinating of the fulfilled prophesies. God had three different prophets predict the direction from which He would re-gather the people.   When we speak of cardinal directions we generally state them as North, South, East and West.  However, three different prophets use a different order of East, West, North and South to describe how God would re-gather the people and this precision is further evidence of how important precision is to God (Isa. 43: 5-6, 21, Psa. 107: 2-3, Luke 13:29).

The three prophets are Isaiah, David and Jesus and in all three passages they speak of the re-gathering of the people to Israel from the East, West, North and South.  We now know in history that the Jews were gathered in the late 1940’s and early 50’s first from the eastern Arab lands of Iraq, Syria and Yemen where they were expelled and the western lands of Europe where they fled after the holocaust.

Then later in the 80’s and 90’s, came the immigration from North after the fall of the Soviet Empire with over a million Russian Jews flowing into Israel and from the South with 120,000 Ethiopian Jews immigrating to Israel.

The Rebirth of the Hebrew Language Fulfilled

In 1922 under the United Nations mandate regarding Israel, the official language of Israel was to be Hebrew as prophesied by (Zephaniah 3:9).

The Barren Land of Israel will Bloom Again

If you visit Israel today you will see that Israel does bloom again and that it has become a bread basket of the middle east and an agricultural exporter again (Ezek. 36:35,  Isa. 26:6, Isa. 35:1-2).

The Currency of Israel will Become the Shekel Again is Fulfilled

The Rebirth of the Israel currency is today the shekel (Ezek. 45:12-16).

The Ancient Cities of Israel will be Re-established and Re-inhabited

Many of the ancient cities of Israel such as Nazereth, Cana, Jerico, Nain, Hebron and Bethany have been reestablished (Ezek. 36:11).

Resurgence of Israeli Military Strength Fulfilled

Today Israel’s military is ranked in the top ten worldwide (Zachariah 12:6).

The re-occupation of Jerusalem by the Jews Fulfilled in 1967

The Jews were out of Jerusalem within 40 years of Jesus death and were out for 1900 years until the 6 day war where the Jews reclaimed Jerusalem (Luke 21:24).

God will make Jerusalem the Center of World Attention is Fulfilled and Ongoing

Zachariah speaking for God said I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone that will cause all the nations of the world to reel (Zachariah 12:2-3).  Currently, the United Nations, the European Union, the Vatican, and the Arab nations are all demanding that the Jews surrender Jerusalem.  The Israeli government has made Jerusalem the capital of Israel, while the U.S, U.N. and others will only recognize Jerusalem as an international city belonging to the world.

All these signs have been fulfilled in the last century. The nation has been re-established, the land has been reclaimed, the ancient language has been revived, the Jews are back in Jerusalem, and Israel is the focal point of world politics.

Jesus says in Luke 21:28 that when these signs begin to happen, we should “straighten up and lift up our heads” because “our redemption is drawing near.”
