Mind Your Own Business

mind your business

There were two men who opened clothing stores across the street from one another.  They sold the same merchandise, carried the same brands and were open the same hours.  One man was doing very well with his store while the other man was barely keeping his doors open.  One day the struggling business owner came in to see the prosperous business owner.

He said, “well I have decided to close my business because it is not making it.  Can you tell me one thing?  How can we sell the same things and you are doing well and I am going out of business.”

The successful business man said, “yes, I can tell you.  It is really quite elementary.  While I am minding one business, you are minding two.”

This is an amusing little story, but I find the message to be quite profound.  The road to success can sometimes be as simple as minding your own business.  That reminds me of a what a friend said recently, he said he was only working half days in his business now.  Then he said with a smile, “Just twelve hours a day is all I am working now.”

Are you familiar with this verse from the Bible?

I Thess. 4: 11-12

Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
